Creating A Natural Christmas Mantle Mixing Faux Stems & Real

I think we can all agree that 2020 needs to be over right? But in the mean time, we can all distract ourselves by creating the perfect Christmas mantle…well at least that’s what I’ve resolved to doing! It seems to hold true each year, I can never do the same decorations twice…a quality my husband thoroughly loves about me (hahaha). But this year, I wanted to less faux and more natural looking. I absolutely love seeing peoples mantles draped in real pine stems but know that real is just not in the cards for our family.

So I was on the search for the next best thing; faux that was so real looking, it couldn’t possibly be faux. I found the perfect options at my local home & gardens store, Prairie Gardens. They have the best (and I mean THE BEST) selection of both faux and real garlands, trees, and stems for Christmas time. There I found a faux pine stem and a faux cedar stem that I layered on top of each other to create a full and natural looking garland.

I used books stacked underneath the garland to give it a fuller, “drappier” look. I found doing this, not only gave the garland height and an illusion of fullness, but it allowed the garland to fall off my mantle in ways that it couldn’t have otherwise. Once I had the books stacked where I wanted them, I began sticking in my favorite pampas grasses that I cut this fall. I love how these grasses added an additional fullness and pop of texture. In addition, I used some faux berries and assorted faux stems layered in. Really you can’t go wrong with how you layer stuff in. Just go to town.

After finishing the garland, I used my vintage brass candlestick holders to add height and that timeless, elegance I was going for. There are so many different places you can find knock offs of these but the real thing is a little harder to find. Here are some I found that I think would complete this look perfectly!

You can add additional layers if you want but honestly, it can be just as simple as that! Remember, less is more! I hope you enjoyed and this inspired you to create your best Christmas mantle yet! :)
