The FAQ We Hate To Answer

When working with people to help them navigate that “big” renovation they are finally getting to, we often get the question… “well what is this going to cost me?” And quite plainly speaking…this is one of our LEAST favorite questions to answer and here’s why.

1. Renovations are not a one size fits all kind of thing and when we get pressed to answer this question (usually on the spot) our answer looks something like this…

“That’s a great question! Do you watch a lot of HGTV shows? (To which they almost ALWAYS say yes!). Ok great, well that’s not anywhere near what most (kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, etc) renovations cost. And here’s why, those shows almost never account for labor. Typically the cost you are seeing reflects the cost of material only. Realistically speaking, a kitchen renovation starts closer to $50K and most people end up spending closer to $80K-$90K. For bathrooms, you’re looking at an average baseline price of $20K but most likely will end up closer to the $30K-$40K range.”

2. Multiple things mightily effect the overall price of a renovation. Those things include:

  • Cabinet quality

  • Countertop selection

  • Cabinet hardware

  • Light fixtures & faucets

  • Backsplash (tile)

Closing Fogel & The $$ We Didn’t Make

Truthfully speaking cabinet’s alone are (typically) the biggest expensive in your remodel projects and can range from $10K-$40K for an average kitchen remodel.

Because there are sooooo many varying factors that can alter the price of your next remodel we try our best to really get to know our clients and what they like, don’t like, their taste, and the places they shop. We ask them questions about their family and their priorities, their hopes & dreams. And most importantly, when we feel like they just don’t know the answer to any of those questions…we educate them and give them a starting point to leverage their dreams on so that when they are ready to renovate that space they will be equipped to prepare for what it is they truly desire.

Best, Tessa
