Dining Room Refresh & An Update

DIY

I started thinking about doing a dining room refresh after we completed the Pennsylvania Project’s dining room. That project really challenged me to think outside the box and it also made me wonder what kind of character and charm we could add to our dining room to make it look and feel a little more “age appropriate.”

This is our dining room before.

Don’t get me wrong, I love our dining room and don’t feel like we “had” to change anything but once I got started down this rabbit hole, I couldn’t seem to climb out of it. So I put together a little inspiration board (via Pinterest of course) and once I saw it all coming together I was SOLD!

I knew I wanted some sort of wall texture (whether that be vertical paneling, recessed paneling, or board and batten) and I wanted wallpaper. As I did a little more soul searching I ultimately came back to recessed paneling for it’s sheer timelessness and the likelihood that it would have been found in a home during this era.

I put together a moodboard for the space, threw some tape lines on the wall to get a good visual on the height for the wainscoting that I wanted, along with the size boxes I preferred and from there, Guy was able to come in a get to work with the materials he knew we needed (full tutorial to come on this very soon!). And in the meantime, I ordered the wallpaper that I’d had my eyes on for a while! It all looked a little like this:

Once all that was installed, caulked and nail holes were filled we used a high-gloss paint in the color Dove White by Benjamin Moore over all the recessed paneling! Once that was done, we had our wallpaper gal come in for an afternoon to finish off the job! Well almost…we still need to add in our lights but that’s coming SOON! Take a look at a sneak peek of the space below!
