This Week at Our Home
June felt like one of those months that held everything at once. The garden finally woke up in all its summer fullness, buttercream zinnias began blooming after weeks of waiting, homemade lemon honey ice cream found its way onto our table, and so many ordinary moments reminded me that this season is meant to be savored. We spent time with family in Michigan and Chicago, hosted a baby shower for a dear friend, gathered by the lake on warm evenings, and found so much joy in the simple rhythm of home. At the same time, our family continued to walk through difficult days as my sister bravely continues her fight against cancer, another loved one received a diagnosis, and we said goodbye to my sweet great aunt. This month reminded me that life is rarely divided into joy or sorrow—it so often asks us to carry both with grateful hearts.
In My Cart This Week
One of my favorite parts of summer is how the garden begins giving back. This month I shared four herbs I believe every host should grow—basil, mint, rosemary, and thyme—because there's something so special about stepping outside moments before dinner to gather fresh herbs for the table. Whether they're tucked into homemade bread, sprinkled over roasted vegetables, or added to a refreshing summer drink, they have a beautiful way of making everyday meals feel just a little more intentional. Sometimes it's the smallest details that create the most memorable gatherings.
Speaking of summer traditions, I also shared one of our family's favorite seasonal recipes: my Homemade Lemon Honey Ice Cream. It's naturally sweetened with honey, filled with bright citrus flavor, and tastes like sunshine in a bowl. It's the kind of recipe that invites everyone to linger a little longer around the table, making memories one scoop at a time. If you're looking for a simple homemade dessert to enjoy during these warm summer evenings, I hope you'll give it a try.
As we head into July, our front porch once again wears its oversized American flag—a tradition that always reminds me of the story behind this old Craftsman. Eight years ago, on the Fourth of July, we hand-delivered an offer on this home without knowing where the journey would lead. Looking back now, it feels like the beginning of a story God had been writing long before we could see it. I shared more about that journey in A Parade, a Potluck, and the Story of How We Found Our Home, reflecting on how this house has become so much more than four walls. It has become the backdrop for our family's traditions, our children's childhood, countless gatherings with friends, and so many of the quiet moments that end up meaning the most.
As always, thank you for being here and for making this such a beautiful, thoughtful community. I’m truly so grateful for each of you.
