This Week At Kindred Homestead 10.12
It feels like a fitting reminder of something I’ve been thinking about lately: maybe we’ve been influenced by the wrong things.
To upgrade the car that still runs. To replace the kitchen that still holds our family. To buy the thing now instead of saving for it. To turn every hobby into a hustle and every ordinary moment into something more impressive.
And listen, I love beautiful things. I make a living sharing them here. But lately, I’ve been reminded that there’s so much beauty in appreciating what we already have. We’ve been putting our little kitchen to work, and while I can certainly dream up a dozen ways to change it, I’m just as grateful for the character and charm that make it ours. There’s something special about learning to love a space for what it is, not just what it could be.
A few things I’m saving lately include some early fall favorites for the home, pieces from Wayfair that have earned a spot in our space, and collected Christmas decor that feels nostalgic, timeless, and like it could have been part of the family for the last twenty years.
I’m also playing with ideas for a fresh yet cozy, lived-in living room, using our current rug as the anchor. I love seeing how a room can feel entirely new with thoughtful layers, collected patterns, and a few well-chosen pieces rather than starting from scratch.
Because I’d much rather influence you to light the candle on a random Tuesday, make the crockpot dinner, pick the flowers growing in your yard, keep the old couch a little longer, or invite people over before the house is “done.”
Maybe the goal was never to create a life that looks worth following. Maybe it’s to create one that feels worth living.
In My Cart This Week
And speaking of making a home feel personal, here’s a little project I’ve been loving lately.
Proof that sometimes the best home decor is just a $2 thrifted jar and a really good idea. I added one of these little match striker stickers to the bottom, filled it with matches, and suddenly she’s fancy.
It’s the tiny, collected details like this that make a home feel like you without spending $40 on a match holder. I’ll always love a beautiful find, but I love even more when a little creativity makes something inexpensive feel special.
A new puppy, a few little home projects, and plenty of ideas I’m tucking away for the seasons ahead. Just a reminder that a home doesn’t have to be finished, and life doesn’t have to be extraordinary, to be really, really good.
As always, thank you for being here and for making this such a beautiful, thoughtful community. I’m truly so grateful for each of you.
