Are You Painting Your Trim??? This FAQ Answered!

We get asked frequently, “ARE YOU GONNA PAINT YOUR BEAUTIFUL WOOD TRIM!?” And for the longest time my answers varied. At one point I was like “YEP!” At another I was like “No way!” And at one time I literally thought I was going to sand down all the trim to try and expose the natural wood and I quickly shut that idea down after I thought about the amount of dust and detail work that would be! But ultimately, I was always so worried about what everyone would think; what would people think if we decided to paint over the wood because GOD FORBID YOU PAINT THE ORIGINAL TRIM! And I worried that if I didn’t paint the trim if I would ever truly love the space that I lived in. It’s crazy how others opinions can literally control your actions but that’s just the honest truth.

So since reflecting and do a little “home soul searching” (to be overly dramatic about the whole thing). But quite honestly, I went on a quest to find similar homes to mine that incorporated the wood trim that could inspire me to love and appreciate the space I’m in. And hopefully along the way, I would find something that could give me the guidance I needed to answer this redundant question….”ARE YOU PAINTING YOUR TRIM???”

Well, I’m happy to announce that I have come to somewhat of a compromise to all of this and couldn’t be happier with the direction that we have decided to go in. We drew our inspiration from the home shown below.

After we found this inspiration, we finally felt confident with a direction that we wanted to go in to make this space feel a bit more like OUR space and felt more than ever that this decision satisfied both our desire to update the trim while still preserving the character and authenticity of the wood. Soooo, we have decided to paint just the baseboard trim white and keep everything else the original woodwork. We will also be updating the staircase a bit; painting the risers the same color as the baseboard trim and painting the railing and banister something a little different.

We want our home to reflect who we are, as well as, the history it holds and we feel this is the best way to do that! We are super excited to share with you this process and keep you in the loop with everything. Since we refinished our floors, we plan on doing the stairs next! Our ideal colors are Benajmin Moore Simply White (bottom left) for the trim and Benjamin Moore’s Baby Fawn (bottom right) for the banister.

We are so excited for this transformation to take place and ask that if you have a conflicting opinion to please consider how your phrase your comment. I have a very sensitive heart and take things very personally, I mean at the end of the day, this is OUR home and we don’t need anyone else’s approval right? :)
