Vintage Inspired Girls Bedroom

If you’re new here, hello and welcome! We are the Kirby’s (Tessa & Guy) and together we have 4 children (2 girls and 2 boys). For the last 5 years my oldest daughter and son have shared a bedroom and they have had such an amazing experience. A couple of years ago I designed their bedroom space to reflect a very gender neutral design style while still trying to implement both feminine and masculine pieces.

Now, almost 3 years later, we are transitioning our son into his own room and my other daughter (child #3) into a shared bedroom with our oldest. For so long I’ve been envisioning this space for them and have wanted it to feel incredibly inviting, beautiful, and timeless. I have wanted it to reflect a vintage escape and I think it does just that! Most of the items you’ll see in this space are found or repurposed and therefore cannot be linked but for me, I wasn’t trying to spend a ton of money on making this room new and flashy.

I was trying to be as creative as I could while reflecting the true nature of the design all while maintaining a simple, modest budget. Facebook marketplace friends….it’s truly the best way to save money on furniture! Try it! Our biggest expensive in this whole process was the bead-board, picture rail, & paint!

Years ago, we got this dresser off the side of the road and I refinished it! It definitely needs to be refinished again but that’s for another day! LOL.

The twin beds I got off of Facebook marketplace for $40 TOTAL! They were such a steal of a deal BUT were a pain in the butt to refinish! I ended up completely stripping them with the hopes of having them be a natural wood but due to a lot of unforeseen obstacles we ended up just painting them in the color Bedford by Fusion Mineral Paint. Even though they didn’t turn out how I was originally envisioning, I am beyond pleased with the end result.

These lamps came in clutch for us…again…thank you Facebook marketplace for this find! I bought 3 of these traditional pleated gold lamps for just $40 total! I love how classic they are, not to mention the girls think the pull down chains are so fun! #functionalalwayswins!
